Last gen microsoft released a digital only console. by forcing people to buy digitally then could make £280 instead! Subscription continues automatically at regular price unless cancelled through your Microsoft Account. i mean if i bought a game then sony would get the full price of £70 but if i sold the game and it passed down to say 3 people then sony still only get £70. they don't give a fuck and ditching discs means more money for them by forcing everyone to buy a digital license so that you can't share games. also don't count on sony or microsoft caring about you making some money back. the only physical media that holds any decent value are switch cards. especially if it's a really popular game. You can try argue that you can sell your discs and that's true but you're not going to get much for them. once digital owners lose access to their games you also lose access to whatever isn't on the disc. good luck playing any modern game with the data that is on the disk! if it's a GOTY edition then you might be fine but there's no guarantee to even get such an edition or that you still won't need patches. so your disc just ends up being a plastic license key. they might have some game data on them but you need to install it onto your drive and then download updates/dlcs.
